bulls.jpg (19757 bytes) Species: The wolves were eating an elk.  Elk are the primary prey of wolves in Yellowstone where there are an estimated 12,000 to 16,000 elk, the largest concentration of this member of the deer family known to exist in the world.

Occasionally,wolves eat deer, moose, or mountain goats.  These species also inhabit Yellowstone, but in far fewer numbers than elk.
