MacNeil
Lyons – is a published writer, photographer, and naturalist who

of Rolling Stone Magazine, USA
Today newspaper, Montana

name but a few.
MacNeil was raised with an early love
and appreciation for the natural world. Growing
up in the wide open spaces of Virginia, Colorado, Maryland's Eastern Shore
and now for the last decade, in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem -
MacNeil can get quite animated when sharing images, stories and his
field-educated interpretation of our natural surroundings with others.

University (1994 - 1997), MacNeil graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation
and Parks Management, with an emphasis in Natural Resources.
MacNeil has 10 years’ experience
working for the National Park Service as an Interpretive Park Ranger and
Education Specialist. These positions have taken him from the Blue
Ridge Parkway in North Carolina & Virginia to Point Reyes National
Seashore & the Marin Headlands in California. MacNeil has also
travelled extensively outside the United States, through many regions -
Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, and

In September of 2000, MacNeil began
his career in Yellowstone National Park.
In Yellowstone, he has worked with the Yellowstone Wolf Project’s
November/December Winter Study recording data and collecting field samples
from Northern Range wolf packs; spent a winter season in the Grand Canyon
of the Yellowstone; was the very first Bear Education Ranger in 2001; lead
numerous school groups through Yellowstone as part of the National Park
Service’s Formal Education Staff; and finally, as a Type II Wildland
Firefighter. From 2002-2011,
MacNeil was a Resident Instructor for the Yellowstone Association
Institute (YAI). During his
time with YAI, he crafted a new program, titled Yellowstone
For Families, that won awards as the “Best Family Camp in America”
by Good Morning America and Family
Fun Magazine.
When not enlightening others about the
wonders of Yellowstone’s natural and cultural resources, MacNeil can be
found enjoying the open air of the mountains – in spring and fall,
photographing the seasonal changes; in winter, back-country telemark
skiing; and in summer, appreciating high-elevation granite vistas,
mountain biking away from pavement, and generally, just having a good time
with family, friends and his faithful dog. To

MacNeil is currently a contract guide, working primarily
for The Wild Side, LLC.
